3. How long does the programme take?

There is however a minimum permissible period for completing the NYAA Programme.
Bronze Level – 6 months
Silver Level – 12 months
Gold Level – 18 months
Most NYAA participants prefer to take about twice as long because this reduces their weekly load. They typically spend between one and two hours on the programme per week, depending on the activity and their initial proficiency.
4. I am handicapped. Can I still sign up for the NYAA Programme ?
Yes, of course! You can still benefit from the NYAA Programme because the conditions can be modified to accommodate your disability. However, there are no soft options or lowering of standards.
Many youths with disability are NYAA Award holders and have been actively serving the community.
5. How does the NYAA Programme help me?
The NYAA Programme is a leadership development award that provides participants with opportunities and platforms to develop their potential to the fullest.
1. It helps you discover interests and talents you never knew you had.
2. It gives you a certificate and a badge as a significance of your achievements.
3. It is supported and recognised by both the Government and industry.
a. Under the MOE LEAPS 2.0 Framework, receiving the NYAA Bronze Award is equivalent to attaining Level 2 under the ‘Leadership’ component. The NYAA Silver and Gold Award is equivalent to a Level 3 b. The level of attainment will be converted to a bonus point(s) which can be used for admission to Junior Colleges/ Polytechnics/ Institutes of Technical Education (JC/Poly/ITE).
6. Must I belong to a group or an organisation to be able to join the NYAA Programme ?
No, you may participate in the NYAA Programme as an independent candidate through the NYAA Council. However, many participants join through a group or an organisation because it is more convenient and fun.
7. Can I continue to do the same activity for a higher level?
Yes, you may. However, we strongly encourage you to try out new things to enrich your experience and broaden your horizons.
8. If I am under 13 years old, can I still enrol in the NYAA Programme?
The minimum age for entry is 13 years old. The NYAA Programme is designed for youths aged 13 to 30. We definitely welcome you to participate in the NYAA Programme when you have reached the age of 13!
Alternatively, you might consider the NYAA Junior Programme – The Butterfly Award, which is available to primary school students aged 9 to 12, up until they graduate. For more details, do refer to The Butterfly Award tab or get in touch with us at [email protected].
9. Can I change my activities after I have signed up for the programme?
Yes, you may. Simply submit a new activity report via our App or Website.
10. Can I use past activities for the NYAA Programme?
No. You cannot use past activities for the NYAA Programme. Only activities that you have undertaken after you’ve signed up can be credited to the NYAA Programme.
11. If I cannot find an assessor to verify my work, would I be disqualified?
Depending on the type of activity you have chosen, your coordinator/assessor could be an instructor, your teacher-in-charge, a parent or a representative from the organisation you have worked with. If there is no way to obtain information on the Host Organisation, it is acceptable to put your own contact details, along with photos of the activity and/or completion certificates/testimonials for records and verification purposes.
If you are unable to find a coordinator/assessor, please contact the NYAA Council. You will undertake the NYAA Award Programme as an Individual participant, whereby we will be your coordinator/assessor.
12. If I have completed my Bronze Level and I wish to embark on the Silver Level, but I have not met the minimum age to sign-up, can I still do so?
Yes, you can. If you have completed the Bronze Level, you can enrol for the Silver Level even though you are below 15 years old. If you have completed the Silver Level, you can enrol for the Gold Level even though you are below 16 years old.
13. Do I need to finish the Bronze Award before I am eligible to pursue the Silver Award, and thereafter the Gold Award?
Participants are eligible to undertake any Award Level as long they meet the minimum age criteria: a minimum of 13 years old for Bronze, 15 years old for Silver (14 years old if Bronze has been previously completed), and 16 years old for Gold.
14. I am nearing graduation from my institution, but I have yet to finish my NYAA Award Programme. What steps should I take?
Kindly send a transfer request via email to [email protected]. In the email, provide the following details: Full Name, current institution, and NYAA Award Level.
If you already know the institution you will be transferring to, please include that information in the email as well. If you’re uncertain whether your next institution has an Award Coordinator, you will be categorised as an Individual participant, and the NYAA Council will assume the role of your Award Coordinator.
15. What is the deadline for submitting the programme report and when will NYAA process my certification?
NYAA does not impose any deadlines as long as participants finish the programme by their 30th birthday.
However, if you need your certificate by a particular date, such as for DSA and EAE applications in May, we strictly adhere to a minimum three-week processing time, applicable only for the Bronze and Silver Award. We strongly recommend participants to plan accordingly if this is a concern.
For the Gold Award, at the final stage of the programme completion, Gold Award participants must undergo an interview with the NYAA Council after their programme report has been approved. The Gold Award Ceremony is held yearly and to participate in the same year’s ceremony, Gold reports should be submitted to the NYAA Council by June for eligibility. If not, participants have till their 30th birthday to complete their NYAA Gold Award Programme.
16. How is the minimum duration of the programme structured ?
We encourage participants to avoid rushing through activities and to instead pace themselves for consistent learning and development throughout this minimum programme duration. If there are concerns about completing the programme by a specific date, we recommend that participants register earlier in their school years to allow for more time to complete it before graduation.
Example: A participant aiming to achieve the NYAA Silver Award by the end of their secondary school education should be aware that the minimum programme duration is 12 months. Considering a minimum processing time of three weeks, it is recommended that they begin their NYAA journey during their Secondary 3 year to ensure they receive certification by graduation.
