
Objective
To learn how to give useful service to others in the community and to understand the meaning behind voluntary service.
This component recognises young people’s development as socially responsible citizens who understand the issues faced by the community and explore how they can contribute actively to find a solution.
They can choose to undertake a Values-In-Action project or any community service projects of their interest.





Bronze
At least 20 hours of regular activities spread over a minimum period of 4 months.
Max 3 hours/activity
(15% of the total required hours)

Silver
At least 40 hours of regular activities spread over a minimum period of 8 months.
Max 6 hours/activity
(15% of the total required hours)

Gold
At least 60 hours of regular activities spread over a minimum period of 12 months.
Max 9 hours/activity
(15% of the total required hours)
Participants can choose any type of activity that involves serving the needs of others within their community.
Some of the examples are:
- Caring for animals
- Civil defence
- Helping senior citizens/neighbours
- Helping in a charitable organisation
- Environmental protection and nature conservation projects
- Fundraising for a local charity or a special project
- Grassroots or community activities
- Community and health education projects
- Helping the needy or physically challenged
- Volunteering at a hospital
- Volunteering at school events
- Peer support activities in schools/organisations
- Youth and community work
- Any other initiative that helps to improve the community
- Activities or projects that promote kindness and graciousness
- Service-related activities in Uniformed Groups/Youth Organisations
The above list is not exhaustive. Participants can consider other activities that are not listed above. Participants may engage in these activities on their own or through their school.
